Capitol Hill may have the national reputation for being the stomping grounds of politicians, but in Washington, it's best known for its charming ambiance, small-town character, and livability. Located just beyond the U.S. Capitol, the Supreme Court, and the Library of Congress, Capitol Hill is one of D.C.'s oldest neighborhoods and is also one of its best preserved. Its streets are still lined with 19th century rowhouses, with grand homes on the state-named avenues and more modest homes on the side streets. Brick sidewalks and meticulously planted small front gardens make for pleasant walking. Architectural and cultural landmarks abound: the neoclassical Union Station, Eastern Market, and the Washington Navy Yard, home of the Washington Nationals' new stadium. Capitol Hill is bounded by the Anacostia River, the H Street corridor, the Southeast/Southwest Freeway, and the Washington Navy Yard. |
