American University (AU) Park / Tenleytown is an urban dream offering residents both the tranquility of a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood and the convenience of restaurants and entertainment within walking distance making late-night treks into downtown purely optional. When a trip downtown is desired, a 10-minute Metro ride is all it takes to find yourself in the center of the big-city bustle. Located between the high-end shopping and dining of Georgetown and Bethesda, Tenleytown and AU Park nevertheless have shops and restaurants to keep you entertained and content without leaving the neighborhood. The commercial and cultural center of the neighborhood is centered on Wisconsin Ave., with single-family houses making up the bulk of the development on side streets. New condo projects are sprouting up on Wisconsin Ave., and condo renovations abound on Massachusetts Ave. The neighborhood is bounded by Wisconsin Ave. to the north, Massachusetts Ave. to the west, Nebraska Ave. to the east, and Western Ave. (the Maryland border) to the south.

What's New?

Have you driven past Woodrow Wilson High School lately and seen all the construction?  Apparently, the new state-of-the-art Aquatic Center (next door to the Tenley/ AU Park high school) is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to modernizing our schools and improving community amenities.

Click here to check out this video for what the Wilson campus will look like circa August 2011....

Opening January 24, 2011, the new Tenley-Friendship Neighborhood Library on Wisconsin Avenue will offer 40,000 books and multimedia items, 32 computers, free WiFi access and a 100-person meeting room in a 22,000 sq ft state-of-the-art facility.

Janney Elementary School -- just like its high school counter part Wilson -- is undergoing a huge renovation/addition.  Once completed, the new campus will include over 40,000 sq ft of new interior space housing new classrooms, an art room, science lab, music room, media center, library, gym and underground parking for teachers and staff.  And that's just inside.  The new grounds will include a new turf field, multiple playground areas, basketball courts, and lots of free space for exploring.
